About:

Call Me Crazy: Field Notes from the Land of the “Mentally Ill” is a devised performance that explores gender, mental health, and generational trauma. Interweaving text from Virginia Woolf’s To the Lighthouse, Rebecca Goldstein’s The Mind-Body Problem, and The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, this mixed-media performance uses movement, puppetry, and animation to ferry audiences through a range of mental states. Traversing the fragile boundaries between in/sane, ir/rational, and un/well, the production ultimately asks audiences to consider the gendered relationship between body and mind, and how those relationships are passed down from one generation to the next.
