Disability Dramaturgy

Disability Dramaturgy

My work as a dramaturg focuses on supporting directors and actors performing mental disability and distress. I provide artists with historical research and embodied exercises designed to produce ethical representational practices that are both safe and respectful.

A portion of this work is derived from my own research into how artists with lived experience of mental disability and distress stage madness. I analyze the content and form of their performances through the lens of neuroqueer dramaturgy: compositional strategies designed to thwart dominant modes of identifying and interpreting mental difference through clinical paradigms.
